Trade Schools & Permit Info BC grew out of Homer's Shack Hub, a Duncan-based advice site that spent years answering one kind of question: what does this actually cost, how long does it actually take, and who's giving me a straight answer? First about building permits and trades careers — now about every career in British Columbia that requires schooling, a licence, or a permit.
The founder, Mark Dupuis, spent 20+ years in automotive sales before retiring in 2015. Two decades of watching people get sold taught him exactly what a sales pitch looks like from the inside — which is why nothing on this site reads like one. Wage figures come with their low end attached. Permit fees come with the penalty schedule. Program listings come with the dropout statistic the brochures leave out.
This site earns money in four ways: schools pay for Premium Partner placement (always labelled with a gold badge), institutions pay for qualified student inquiries submitted through our Request Info forms, display advertising (always labelled "Advertisement"), and our own downloadable study guides. Paid placement buys position — it never buys the editorial description, and it never changes a number. If a school's program costs $19,000, the listing says $19,000, badge or no badge.
Permit fees and timelines are verified against municipal published schedules and direct contact with permit offices. Wage data comes from BC industry and union sources. Tuition comes from institutions' published rates. Found something out of date? Tell us — corrections ship fast here.
